From Zero to Full Network Visibility in Minutes

LANcarta uses a lightweight collector — installed with a single command — to continuously discover, map, and monitor every node on your network. No cloud infrastructure to provision. No agent sprawl to manage. Just clear, actionable network visibility.

How It Works in Three Steps

Step 1

Generate a Collector Key

From the Collectors tab in your portal, create a key scoped to your account and network. Each key ties one collector to exactly one network — keeps your inventory clean and your data isolated.

Step 2

Run the Install Command

Paste one shell command into a terminal on any Linux, macOS, Windows, or Docker host. The bootstrap script downloads the binary for your platform, installs it as a persistent system service, and registers it with your account — all in under a minute.

Step 3

Nodes Surface Automatically

Discovery begins immediately. ARP finds every connected node — even ones that ignore ping. IP address, MAC address, vendor, and hostname are captured and appear in your map within seconds of install.

What the Collector Discovers

The collector runs as a system service and reports three categories of information back to your account:

Node Identity

IP address, MAC address, hostname, and vendor — derived automatically from the MAC OUI prefix. No manual lookups or spreadsheets needed.

Availability

ICMP checks run on a continuous schedule. See which nodes are online right now, when each one last responded, and how availability has trended over your retention window.

Network Device Detail Paid

On Small Business and IT Professional plans, SNMP queries pull interface lists, system descriptions, and additional metadata from routers, switches, and other managed devices.

What You See in the Portal

Live Network Map

A force-directed graph shows subnets and nodes in real time. Click any node to open its detail panel — full discovery history, custom fields, runbook notes, and availability trend.

Searchable Inventory

Every node in a filterable table. Search by IP, MAC, hostname, vendor, or any custom field you've added. Filter by subnet, sort by last seen, and export to CSV.

Change Alerts

Get notified when a new node joins the network or a tracked node goes offline. Availability history and trend data are stored across your plan's full retention window.

Team Access

Invite teammates so everyone sees the same network context. Add custom fields to document device owners, locations, and roles. Attach runbook procedures to critical nodes.
